Thanks again Russell. Are you seriously thinking about starting a fund? Because it is much easier for us(me) to have someone with vast international equity knowledge to short sell in one jurisdiction and use the proceeds to generate positive carry. Your post was very educational, but to put that to practice is rather difficult. Thanks again, looking forward to you starting a fund before private equity implodes.

I am definitely looking into it - the big macro picture makes sense, and there is enough money involved to make it interesting. Now I am in the process of building a portfolio to see what it looks like

Can't wait to see what it looks like too.

Incidentally, I recall you being quite flustered with the MCD short a while back. And look at it today!

I am sure I have mentioned short selling sucks many times... shorts often have to rally until all the bears are crushed... but if this is the beginning of the end of MCD, it has years to run!

Thanks for the post. Just wondering why aren't you a fan of CTAs? I've always thought the trend CTAs were good to have in a portfolio, but we might be partially in agreement as I never really thought the rest of the space outside of trend had much value.

Like most strategies, they make sense when small. But their popularity in recent years seemed to mess up their return profile.

Makes sense. Seems like they just started doing well again in the last three years, but that was after a decade of outflows from poor performance. Hoping that doesn't attract a ton of inflows that leads to overcrowding again.
