Hey Russell, very interesting, thank you. I worked in Japan for 6 years. Fascinating country. I still have some Japanese friends there. What I hear is that those in the tourism industry that survived the COVID period realize they can do without the Chinese tourists and there is not necessarily a lot of appetite to open the gates again for similar numbers of tourists as before COVID. Are you picking up similar stories? And would this affect the thesis? Arguably, the number of tourists cannot go below 0, but if it is significantly lower than before COVID, the BoJ policy of YCC (assuming it remains in force) might still have the upper hand and keep the JPY weak. Great restaurant by the way, I should check it out next time we are in Japan. I live in Taipei so Japan is close, and is #1 on our list of holiday destinations now.

I had not heard about trying to live with less Chinese tourist - but I do know in Australia the universities are trying to reduce the number of chinese students. So there may well be a conscious effort to reduce the economic reliance on China.

Isaribi is great - if you can get the seats near the ovens, you can order straight to the chef... highly recommend, and not far from Umeda station.

Food in Taipei is also awesome...

An inverse historic McDonald's price. Great way to break down the cost effects in Japan.
